Boost your Speaking Skill even if you are on Level Zero!

Meet the Teacher

Hello! My name is Konstantina Kavvadia.

During my 16 years as a Greek language tutor I have gained a lot of experience about how people can start speaking a language and why some students succeed and others don't.

Most people, when starting to learn a new language, will start by looking for a variety of language courses, books, websites, popular videos and may even join well-known language schools (whether physically or online). The next step then usually is that students pick several resources that appeal to them and off they go! However, after a few months (sometimes after many years), they realise that all they have gained is a lot of vocabulary, some grammar and language theory, but that they have no idea of how to string it all together in a couple of sentences that can go beyond merely saying short phrases. Some may and write a little, but very few can speak without getting immediately stuck.

Thus after spending a lot of time - and money - they get frustrated, lose interest and abandon their efforts to try and learn to speak the Greek language!

It is exactly here where I can help. During the first free session with a prospective student, the stories are all very similar expressing bewilderment by all the Greek grammar ... and yes, while the grammar is not the easiest to grasp but it is by no means impossible to master. However you cannot come to grips with it if you only read it, hear it, or just repeat it.

You have to speak it.

My method allows me to very quickly figure out your level. During the class, we talk about topics that interest the student mostly and I give instant feedback right then and there. When someone focuses on things they are interested in, new information registers much easier in one's mind. The feedback I give is a corrections of grammar and vocabulary. I am also the one which will take notes during the class so you can stay focused on just speaking and listening. Afterwards I use them to create your homework on a specific learning platform.

Most tutors, focus on a curriculum and an idea of what they think you should be learning. I believe that learning should be tailored made so I will take you through the process and teach you everything you want and need to know by skipping all the traditional teaching patterns, so your learning process will resemble more a friendly conversation than a class.

Don't be concerned if you are a little shy or afraid to make mistakes, my method will very soon make you gain confidence and before you know it you will be able to speak Greek!

What type of learner are you
One on One Person or a Groupie?

The best thing about one to one classes is that everything is focused totally on you! You have a great amount of time to practice your speaking skills and enough still for a heap of new info.

One great thing about group classes is that you get to practice your speaking skills with more people.  More people equals more subjects to talk about and thus more new things to learn! An important note here: All members in group class get equal amount of time to practice speaking, ask questions and have them answered.

What students say ...

Claudia , Düsseldorf.

I was lucky finding Konstantina, when I decided to start learning Greek.
The learning is fun and thanks to the flexibility of the Skype lessons - I can make it fit into my weeks, even if I´m travelling for work.I couldn´t have made it to a normal course with fixed times.

I like how Konstantina explains the structure and connects the lesson with my every day life – because that´s what I will talk about. With this one-to-one lessons I think the progress is better than in a large group and after a short time I noticed how good it works for me. Konstantina is very nice, motivating and I also like the additional/background information, that she gives.

Chris D. Bridport, UK.

My name is Chris, and I am a musician. I first needed to learn Greek to understand Cretan music for work. Trouble is, nobody where I live speaks even rudimentary Greek; I don’t even have a Greek restaurant anywhere within 3 hours!

That’s where Greek via Skype comes in.Two hours a week in casual topical chat with Tatiana [or would you rather be Konstantina??] over Skype, and I can now hold a conversation, have a decent grasp of grammar, and understand colloquialisms when I hear them. The majority of each lesson is just talking Greek which reinforces learned grammar; we look at new grammar, and a new lexicon comes up naturally in conversation – new words in context.

Homework is revision of the day’s play, and perhaps new grammar. The best part is, before you have the opportunity to look at your watch, the hour’s up, and you’re looking forward to the next day’s lesson, that’s how enjoyable the lessons are. No subject is off the agenda – anything which puts learning in context.  Konstantina won’t mind me saying, she has great sense of humour which makes the lesson fun, and I now think of her not just as a tutor, but as a friend in Athens on the other end of the phone! She seems to have infinite patience; crikey, sometimes she needs it!! I cannot recommend Greek via Skype highly enough.
